Obama's Inauguration Day

Obama's Inauguration was over two weeks ago, but I finally have a chance to post some photos of the day.

It was a cold morning, but not as cold as 2008. We were also through the security checkpoint much quicker than before, and were prepared with more food, hand warmers, and even a blanket!

Our day started at 6:00 am, the swearing in began at 11:30. We spotted a few celebrities, made acquaintances with fellow Obama-supporters as we waited for hours in the cold, and had enough powdered donuts to last us a few weeks (four years ago we ate powdered donuts and I am just a sucker for traditions).

By the time we got home we were pooped. Thankfully this day doesn't happen too often. Who knows what the next four years will bring or who will be sworn in four Januarys from now, but our country has some work to do and hopefully we can pull together to make it happen.

And now for Obama and Biden!

2013 Inauguration Saturday

This is coming at you two weeks late. School has been crazy busy and I finally had a chance to get caught up with posting.

We had a very busy few days during the Inaugural weekend. Saturday was spent downtown, exploring monuments, seeing the Holocaust Museum, eating cupcakes, and checking out the pre-inaugural preparations. I already did an instagram post on that day, but below are some photos we took with the better camera.

Inaugural Weekend is Here - Instagram Version

Four years ago Tom and I flew down here to see Obama be sworn into his first term. It's nice and exciting to be living in the city as this weekend arrives again. We spent the entire day seeing the sites with Tom's family, starting off at the Holocaust Museum and ending our city visit with a cupcake and a stroll by the White House.

It was an absolutely beautiful day. The sun was shining and there were no clouds in the sky! It made it so easy to be outside the whole time. Now if only it would be this warm on Monday....

Our journey took us by the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. It was very appropriate to be there this weekend.

Thanks to Instagram I was able to have a little fun as I captured the sites of the day!

We tried yet another cupcake bakery this afternoon - Red Velvet. I always try a bakery's birthday cake cupcake to compare it to my little cupcake's version in Vermont, and have yet to find one that beats my little cupcake. I was surprised to bite into this one today and taste almond extract. Say what?! I was not at all expecting to taste that!

Needless to say, my little cupcake has Red Velvet beat!

After taking and teaching Earth Science, I can't help but take notice whenever the moon is out. It was up in the sky the whole day, but was especially prominent while we were munching on our cupcakes.

A friend joined us for the cupcake portion of our tour. She experienced a protest near the White House with us, and dinned with us for dinner and a post-dinner fro-yo treat. After this full day, we are pooped! It's early to bed in order to get ready for tomorrow's adventures, including a reception in the evening. We're still not cool enough to be invited to a ball, but maybe some day ;)
