I Keep Going! Weekly Recap

The miles are slowly increasing! Last week was a big week because I finally hit a double-digit day.

Total Weekly Mileage: 33.5

Monday: Rest day and a PT appointment. The Doc said it was OK to call him if/when I feel pain again. We didn't schedule another appointment and I left the building wanting to skip home!

Tuesday: 2.8 miles at practice and 4 miles at home.
It's nice to have practice again to help me warm up for my runs when I get home. It also ensures that I get out for a run at least 3-4 days of the week after school. This winter I would get home with little motivation, or more commonly, too much work to actually make myself go for a run. So on this day I ran almost 3 miles with the team, before heading out for a 4 miler when I got home.

The only problem was that I was super hungry by the end and had to stop at Chipotle to pick up some dinner. Chipotle, sadly, becomes my go-to-dinner while coaching. I really need to run past it, not into it, this spring.

Wednesday: Rest day: Track Meet.
Our kids had their first outdoor meet of the city. I really didn't know how they would run because I haven't spent much time with them and didn't follow them over the winter (I know, my bad). It was exciting to see the speed in some of them. Couldn't help but think back to all of my high school cross country meets. Oh the pain of 400s and 800s. What was I thinking back then?

By the time it was over I was pooped. Never thought I would be so exhausted after standing around at a meet, but being out there for 5 hours in the chilly wind took a lot out of me and I ended up going to bed super early.

Thursday: 4 mile tempo run (7:02 pace)
This was definitely an UNPLANNED tempo. Went for a run with the head coach and was struggling to maintain the pace. I have lost a lot of fitness over the winter. While the run wasn't necessarily fun, I know I will be in better shape because of it and the speed will help for my race in two weeks.

Friday: 2.5 miles at practice and 4 miles at home (7:21 pace)
Practice consisted of a 1 mile warm-up and some hills. I joined some girls for one of the hills and challenged them to beat me. Two managed to do it, which I love seeing. Nothing is more motivating than beating your coach, right? I wanted to make sure these girls were pushing themselves up that hill, which they did!

My leg was feeling it today. I neglected my foam roller all week, thinking that it didn't really make a difference. Boy was I wrong! Made sure to foam-roll once I got back from my double runs and I could feel relief right away.

Saturday: 5.75 miles at 8:00 pace
I'm not sure where the warm DC spring weather is is that I have always heard about. The weather has been cool (in the 40's) and the wind just won't stop blowing. It was slightly warmer today - 52 degrees - which made me want spring even more. I ran a route I haven't run in about 2 months, and it brought back all of those memories from the fall marathon training. Very soon it will be July and the training will start again!

Sunday: 10 miles at 7:43 pace
I felt really good today. Leg wasn't bothering me (thank you to the roller) and I had a bunch of energy. I had been grading ALL weekend (no joke) so my body was ready to get out and get in a good, long run. I picked up the speed. Not intentionally, but because it felt comfortable. I constantly monitored my breathing to asses my effort level, and my breathing was steady and low throughout the whole workout.

I felt good when I was done, but got tired as the afternoon and night progressed. I had really missed that feeling from a good run and am glad it's back! Getting a solid, long run in is more motivation to keep working hard.

We'll see what this week brings. It was in the 30s today and we got over an inch of wet, sticky snow. Hopefully the temps will warm up and spring will FINALLY get here. I only have 3.5 more teaching days until we're officially on spring break! I am very much looking forward to a break. Yes I love teaching, but I think everyone is ready for some free time. I know I am looking forward to catching up on Scandal, which Tom and I have become quite addicted to in the last two weeks!

  1. Hooray! Super pumped that you got in a double digit run! Way to go! Also - can't believe your spring break is so late. I'm not sure I could have lasted one more week waiting for it to come! Have a great week!
