2012 Running Stats, Goals, and a Running "Blah"

Let's talk running, shall we? Gah! Last month was a horrible month of running for me. I didn't post workouts because there were very few. Dailymile just added a stat page for 2012. I loved seeing the breakdown of my training last year, but it seemed to be a little all over the place.

There is a reason why I ran so well at Philly. It's because I actually trained! My mileage totals were much higher from July-October than they were from Jan-April when I was training for Boston.

And then there was December. Which looks like a very sad month. I can thank my three week cold for that!

The stat that makes me laugh: I burned 33 pounds last year? Oh. My!

I hadn't actually taken the time to create goals for this year like most people. Usually I say, "eh, I just want to keep working hard and see where the roads take me". But after looking above, I would love to get that weekly mileage count up higher so that I am averaging more than 31 miles a week.

Normally, I do not like to make running goals because I can never predict what will happen. It seems that something always does happen (*coughacoldthatlaststhewholemonthofdecembercough*). I also don't like failing at something. If I don't create a goal, then I can't fail. Yet if I don't create a goal, then I might never improve.

So another goal will be to lower my half marathon PR time. That means I need to run faster than a 1:34:56. Can I do it? I sure hope so!

After we got back from VT last week I was finally able to start running more consistently. The first two days were BLAH! Horrible! I didn't want to be out there, I felt like I was incredibly slow, and kept thinking "this is going to be a long month of running."

Then I had an AWESOME run on Friday. Things were looking better. I can't tell if the speed and enthusiasm came from my body starting to get back into running mode or if it was due to the cup of coffee and chocolate-bacon cupcake that I ate an hour before going out there. Either way, I was starting to feel excited about running!

And that's when my immune system crapped out on me. Again. I can't go anywhere without a stash of Kleenex's with me. It is so sad. Cold #4 has hit this school year and I wasn't even in school when I caught it!

I managed to run a few easy miles on Saturday, but was out of commission on Sunday. Today I felt well enough to get out there for a run, so I am optimistic that I can use running to combat this cold!

  1. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get sick. It seems like everyone has the flu or is fighting off a cold. I hope that you feel better soon!

I love the funny stats that DM has. 33# is quite a bit! I like seeing how many donuts I burn. :-)
