Adventures in Malaga: Day 1 - Arrival

It was a little sad to leave our Granada. We packed up early on the morning of June 14th. The sky was a gorgeous blue and the sun was shining down on us as we made our way to the bus station.

We were headed to Malaga!
Home of Pablo Picasso and beaches on the Mediterranean Sea.

Adios hotel!

We grabbed bocadillos for the journey, then relaxed for the few hours that we were on the bus.

Olive trees as far as the eye can see!

It's common to see a giant toro on the side of the roads

Malaga had a different feel to it, and was much warmer. It seemed more modern than Granada, cleaner, more beachy (obviously because it was by the sea), and fun. We stayed at a cute hotel, Hotel California, and were able to find it with no trouble. The staff at the hotel were wonderful and could even speak English. After dropping off our bags we headed across the street for a peek of the beach.

This was the first time I had been to the beach since moving to Montpelier in 2009. Holy smokes!

Beach excitement

Once back at the hotel we discovered a seating area on their roof. We took a few moments to enjoy the view of the ocean and sip on zumo de naranja (orange juice).

This is what a vacation is all about!

The map of Malaga was full of places to visit including museums, cathedrals, and the remains of Moorish palaces and fortresses. Stay tuned for the rest of Malaga Day 1...

Need to catch up on our June 2011 vacation?
